About

Margo and MeEnglish&More is both personal and professional:  I teach English at College of the Sequoias, a community college in Visalia, California; I write poetry and keep up on the local poetry and writing scene; I study and read composition theory and praxis; and teach in a context of thinking through the cultural, social and political assumptions we live in.

I was not always a teacher–in fact, perhaps because my father taught, I never saw myself in that role.  I dropped out of college when I was about 20 (to my father’s dismay, I’m sure) and worked and traveled through most of my twenties.  In 1996, I decided to return to school, initially to pursue a business degree.  Along the way, my natural love of writing and books gradually steered me in a different direction.  I got my BA in English in 2000 and went on to get a Certificate of Advanced Study in Composition (2005) and an MFA in poetry (2006).  I was hired by COS and I have enjoyed every semester–particularly my students, but also the faculty and staff I work with.  We are not a large school and though we have growing pains and budget problems (who doesn’t), the community of the campus is wonderful.

I envision this blog as personal in the sense that I will write about what I’ve read, of vacations I’ve taken, etc. and it may be that these entries are just journals for my own benefit.  But, I also see this as a place where I can promote or feature things that may have interest to others as well.  Whatever it is, if you’re reading, I hope you find something of interest and come back again.  Leave a comment if you feel inclined.

Namaste
